Utah is the Number 1 State, Again!
According to US News and World Report, Utah is the best state in the nation. This is the third time in the last five years that Utah has been first. Utah ranked in the top ten in five of the eight major categories measured.
Some states shine in health care. Some are better with the economy. Some are good in both – or in much more. The Best States rankings by U.S. News uses eight categories to rank all 50 states: health care, education, economy, opportunity, infrastructure, crime and corrections, fiscal stability and natural environment. Seventy-one metrics and thousands of data points are used to measure how well states are performing for their people. In addition to health care and education, the rankings take into account a state’s economy; its roads, bridges, internet and other infrastructure; its public safety; its natural environment; the fiscal stability of state government; and the opportunity it affords its residents.
More weight was given to some categories over others, based on a survey US News did of what matters most to people. Health care and education were weighted most heavily. Then came state economies, infrastructure, and the opportunity states offer their citizens. Fiscal stability followed closely, then by measures of crime and corrections and a state’s natural environment.
